Amusing. Well-acted. Generic.
Brooks Rattigan (Centineo) is a charming, driven, ambitious high school senior, obsessed with attending Yale next year. Ever opportunistic, he finagles a job taking snarky rich girl Celia (Marano) to a dance, which gives him the idea for a new service. He becomes a PG-13 rom-com gigolo. He goes on dates with various people for money, set up through an app. The premise yields highly predictable, yet enjoyable results. Young leads, Centineo and Marano, are very good, even with dialogue that seems too witty and constantly intelligent to be natural. It’s on the strength of their performances and charm that The Perfect Date is worth watching.
