Goofy. Uneven. So-so.
The beloved daughter of millionaire P.J Downing (Corbin) is kidnapped and held for ransom. He turns to a family friend and the head of a detective agency, Eliot (Jones), who recommends the incompetent Harry Crumb (Candy), since Eliot is, after all, the kidnapper, and doesn’t want the case solved. Candy, who was prolific during his life, like all film comics, has an uneven filmography. This is definitely a minor work. It’s consistently amusing, but never laugh out loud funny. The supporting actors are all well cast, but, overall, the film fails to capture the Pink Panther spirit it sets out to.
