After watching Disney’s latest Star Wars spin-off, this one devoted to lovable scoundrel and pilot of the Millennium Falcon (Han Solo), I’m left with a question. Just one, but it’s a big one, since I consider myself a hardcore fan of the Star Wars universe. At the end of this film, while Solo is tracking down the stolen loot, his love interest Qi’ra (played by Emilia Clarke) communicates with her, theretofore, mysterious boss, revealed to be Darth Maul. Darth Maul? But wait a minute, didn’t Darth Maul die in Star Wars: Episode 1 (The Phantom Menace). Of course, he did. Obi Wan Kenobi killed him. So if he died in that episode, and apparently he’s alive here, that means Solo: A Star Wars Story takes place before that episode. My Star Wars timeline is completely jacked up then. Since Annakin Skywalker was just a boy of maybe ten, and Solo is at least 20 in his spin-off film, that means Han Solo is older than Annakin. This becomes an issue. That would make Han Solo at least 45 in the original trilogy, and it’s now weird that he ends up with Annakin’s daughter, Princess Leia. Am I missing something? Could it be that the reveal was meant to show that Darth Maul didn’t die? I’m researching, and many mention The Clone Wars animated series. After rewatching the end scene from The Phantom Menace, I see that Darth Maul was cut in half, and tossed down an endless pit. He survived? Okay, Star Wars. Darth Maul’s appearance in Solo, as cool as he is, makes no sense to me. Calling all ultra nerd friends. Help me out.
