Funny. Romantic. Charming.
A modern, romantic comedy version of the great French tragic play Cyrano De Bergerac, C.D Bales (Martin) instantly falls for the new girl in town, astronomer Roxanne (Hannah), but, because of his insanely large nose, he lacks the confidence to go for her. Soon a handsome young guy, Chris, moves to town as well, and Chris and Roxanne desire one another from afar. Too afraid to approach her, Chris asks C.D to help woo her, and the two find their combination (Chris’ looks with C.D’s brains and passion) win the heart of the girl, with neither man fully satisfied. Where some might say overly sentimental or corny, I say whimsical. It’s also genuinely romantic and funny, and Steve Martin is wonderful.
