Django Unchained (2012)
Tarantino has crafted several unforgettable scenes throughout his eight films, and even True Romance which he wrote. This brazenly subversive scene from Django Unchained is one of his best, brilliantly turning the extremist movement to a bickering gang of old fools. It begins after Big Daddy Bennett (Don Johnson) gathers his fellow Klan members to go after our heroes Django (played by Jamie Foxx) and King Schultz (Christoph Waltz) for killing three of his slavers. Their ride in on horseback is shot in grand style reminiscent of the classic Ride of the Valkyries sequence in Apocalypse Now (1979). This glorious display of unity cuts immediately to the contrasting dispute over whether or not they wear bags over their heads. By making the scene about something so trivial, the Klan are reduced to a joke. It’s the funniest scene in the movie.
