Fletch Lives (1989)

Fletch Lives is by no means a great movie. Whereas the first film focused on a tight mystery plot with quick wit and funny banter to fill in the blank spaces, its sequel is more episodic and silly at times. That being said, I happen to think certain sequences of Fletch Lives are brilliant, including this send up of the Hollywood sugar coated image of the old south. If you’ve seen films like Gone With the Wind or Disney’s Song of the South, you’ll remember their ideas of the happy slave or the friendship between master and slave. It’s ridiculous, and Fletch Lives has fun with that.
