Starring Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart, Anthony Michael Hall, Morgan Freeman, Eric Roberts
Batman (Bale) returns, this time taking on the nihilistic Joker (Ledger) and the ethical anarchy he brings about. Nolan’s vision in this movie redefined the genre. More than just an action movie, or a man running around in tights, his Batman is a moral hero as much as he is a physical one. Unlike most people, I feel the trilogy reaches its zenith with the third one; this installment being too leaden at times. The performances are all-around great, with the deceased Ledger taking everybody by surprise with his terrifying portrayal of Batman’s most famous enemy. The role earned him a posthumous Oscar; much deserved.
