Timeless. Zany. Charming.
Personal favorite screwball comedy about a charismatic homeless man (Powell) taken in by a rich, zany family as their butler. The characters are all hysterical: the dotty mother (Brady), the cranky, overburdened father (Pallette), the mom’s “protégé” who never seems to do anything, the sassy maid, the spoiled older daughter, and the crazy, but lovable younger daughter (Lombard). Powell’s underplaying anchors the comedy and plays well as a foil to Lombard’s classic screwball performance. Great romantic comedy.
