Starring Robert Redford, Bryce Dallas Howard, Wes Bentley, Karl Urban

Remake of a 1977 Disney film that mixed live action and animation, this update acknowledges that the original was not very good simply by having almost nothing to do with its titular source. A newly orphaned boy, left to fend for his self in the woods, finds a friendly dragon that soon becomes his best friend. After several years, a park ranger (Howard) and her family find the boy, and do their best to domesticate him. Ultra pleasant and sincere, this is a kind of middle ground movie for parents and their kids where both are moderately pleased. Having Robert Redford in the cast lends a degree of seriousness, and the dragon is impressively done, but the story (with shades of The Jungle Book) is only passably compelling.
