(7-Very Good Film)

Witty. Charming. Goofy.

Classic comedy full of clever word play, “The pellet with the poison’s in the vessel with the pestle; the chalice from the palace has the brew that is true! Right?” and a fun self-deprecating manner that makes its medieval setting feel fresh and vibrant. Danny Kaye plays a buffoonish performer caught up in a plot to overthrow the king, and the supporting cast is rounded out with a great group of dramatic actors, led by the villainous Basil Rathbone, ready to roll their eyes at him.
