Starring Jack Nicholson, Faye Dunaway, John Huston, Diane Ladd
The quintessential neo-noir, Chinatown is at once very modern, in its vision of corrupt politicians in the time of Watergate, and very old-school in its seamless transfer of the noir subgenre to color. In the grand tradition of private detective movies, Jake Gittes (Nicholson) is given a straightforward case: prove a woman’s husband is cheating on her. Naturally, this innocuous case becomes much more as Jake learns that that woman isn’t who she claimed to be. Corruption, murder, a monopoly on water are all waiting on Jake in a case that was supposed to be just infidelity.
