Starring Nick Nolte, Whittni Wright, Albert Brooks, Julie Kavner, Joely Richardson, Ian McKellan

Originally meant to be a musical , the movie instead feels like a half-baked sitcom. Nick Nolte plays a struggling actor who all of a sudden is forced to raise his young precocious daughter by himself. The daughter later finds success as child actor; more success than her father’s ever had in decades of striving. Nolte’s acting and James L. Brooks’ writing elevate the material slightly, but overall, certain ideas seemed unfinished.
